The Shame Continues...

I was raised by a Jewish father. He and my mother married in the 40s, despite not sharing his religion. My father was an admirable man, and I was given the choice of choosing my own religion. I'm a Christian, but like politics, I question religion, too--the validity of so many beliefs founded on one Bible. If I read the Old Testament, the Jews were God's chosen people, but according to the New Testament, unless one accepts Christ as their savior, they have no chance at Heaven. That's a bitter pill for me to swallow when so many revere their Lord yet following the teachings of one half of the Good Book. Equally as bitter is the shabby treatment of Israel and her people, and no one is doing a thing to support them. Why aren't we crying out in shame?

I'm appalled that the United States has literally turned its back on Israel. In my opinion, Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu should be president of the world. Ask yourself how you would feel if your family--your ancestry was slaughtered needlessly. Then ask yourself how much more Israel could had done to make Hamas stop lobbing bombs into their backyard. Obama gave a decent speech, but clearly his actions speak louder than his words. He would rather side with the Muslims that stand by allies who have stood by us for years.

How about throwing away the "race" card for once and playing the "jew" card. Haven't these people suffered and sacrificed enough? And their torture continues while slavery ended years and years ago. Below is the transcript from Mr. Netanyahu's speech to the UN. I beg you to read it.

Mr. President,
Ladies and Gentlemen,

Nearly 62 years ago, the United Nations recognized the right of the Jews, an ancient people 3,500 years-old, to a state of their own in their ancestral homeland.

I stand here today as the Prime Minister of Israel, the Jewish state, and I speak to you on behalf of my country and my people.

The United Nations was founded after the carnage of World War II and the horrors of the Holocaust. It was charged with preventing the recurrence of such horrendous events. Nothing has undermined that central mission more than the systematic assault on the truth.

Yesterday the President of Iran stood at this very podium, spewing his latest anti-Semitic rants. Just a few days earlier, he again claimed that the Holocaust is a lie.

Last month, I went to a villa in a suburb of Berlin called Wannsee. There, on January 20, 1942, after a hearty meal, senior Nazi officials met and decided how to exterminate the Jewish people. The detailed minutes of that meeting have been preserved by successive German governments.

Here is a copy of those minutes, in which the Nazis issued precise instructions on how to carry out the extermination of the Jews. Is this a lie?

A day before I was in Wannsee, I was given in Berlin the original construction plans for the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. Those plans are signed by Hitler’s deputy, Heinrich Himmler himself. Here is a copy of the plans for Auschwitz-Birkenau, where one million Jews were murdered. Is this too a lie?

This June, President Obama visited the Buchenwald concentration camp. Did President Obama pay tribute to a lie? And what of the Auschwitz survivors whose arms still bear the tattooed numbers branded on them by the Nazis? Are those tattoos a lie?

One-third of all Jews perished in the conflagration. Nearly every Jewish family was affected, including my own. My wife's grandparents, her father’s two sisters and three brothers, and all the aunts, uncles and cousins were all murdered by the Nazis. Is that also a lie?
Yesterday, the man who calls the Holocaust a lie spoke from this podium. To those who refused to come here and to those who left this room in protest, I commend you. You stood up for moral clarity and you brought honor to your countries.

But to those who gave this Holocaust-denier a hearing, I say on behalf of my people, the Jewish people, and decent people everywhere: Have you no shame? Have you no decency?

A mere six decades after the Holocaust, you give legitimacy to a man who denies that the murder of six million Jews took place and pledges to wipe out the Jewish state. What a disgrace! What a mockery of the charter of the United Nations!

Perhaps some of you think that this man and his odious regime threaten only the Jews. You're wrong. History has shown us time and again that what starts with attacks on the Jews eventually ends up engulfing many others.

This Iranian regime is fueled by an extreme fundamentalism that burst onto the world scene three decades ago after lying dormant for centuries.

In the past thirty years, this fanaticism has swept the globe with a murderous violence and cold-blooded impartiality in its choice of victims. It has callously slaughtered Moslems and Christians, Jews and Hindus, and many others. Though it is comprised of different offshoots, the adherents of this unforgiving creed seek to return humanity to medieval times. Wherever they can, they impose a backward regimented society where women, minorities, gays or anyone not deemed to be a true believer is brutally subjugated.

The struggle against this fanaticism does not pit faith against faith nor civilization against civilization. It pits civilization against barbarism, the 21st century against the 9th century, those who sanctify life against those who glorify death. The primitivism of the 9th century ought to be no match for the progress of the 21st century. The allure of freedom, the power of technology, the reach of communications should surely win the day.

Ultimately, the past cannot triumph over the future. And the future offers all nations magnificent bounties of hope. The pace of progress is growing exponentially. It took us centuries to get from the printing press to the telephone, decades to get from the telephone to the personal computer, and only a few years to get from the personal computer to the internet.

What seemed impossible a few years ago is already outdated, and we can scarcely fathom the changes that are yet to come.

We will crack the genetic code. We will cure the incurable. We will lengthen our lives. We will find a cheap alternative to fossil fuels and clean up the planet.

I am proud that my country Israel is at the forefront of these advances – by leading innovations in science and technology, medicine and biology, agriculture and water, energy and the environment. These innovations the world over offer humanity a sunlit future of unimagined promise.

But if the most primitive fanaticism can acquire the most deadly weapons, the march of history could be reversed for a time. And like the belated victory over the Nazis, the forces of progress and freedom will prevail only after a horrific toll of blood and fortune has been exacted from mankind.

That is why the greatest threat facing the world today is the marriage between religious fanaticism and the weapons of mass destruction, and the most urgent challenge facing this body is to prevent the tyrants of Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

Are the member states of the United Nations up to that challenge? Will the international community confront a despotism that terrorizes its own people as they bravely stand up for freedom?

Will it take action against the dictators who stole an election in broad daylight and gunned down Iranian protesters who died in the streets choking in their own blood?

Will the international community thwart the world's most pernicious sponsors and practitioners of terrorism?

Above all, will the international community stop the terrorist regime of Iran from developing atomic weapons, thereby endangering the peace of the entire world?

The people of Iran are courageously standing up to this regime. People of goodwill around the world stand with them, as do the thousands who have been protesting outside this hall. Will the United Nations stand by their side?

Ladies and Gentlemen,
The jury is still out on the United Nations, and recent signs are not encouraging.

Rather than condemning the terrorists and their Iranian patrons, some here have condemned their victims. That is exactly what a recent UN report on Gaza did, falsely equating the terrorists with those they targeted.

For eight long years, Hamas fired from Gaza thousands of missiles, mortars and rockets on nearby Israeli cities. Year after year, as these missiles were deliberately hurled at our civilians, not a single UN resolution was passed condemning those criminal attacks.

We heard nothing – absolutely nothing – from the UN Human Rights Council, a misnamed institution if there ever was one.

In 2005, hoping to advance peace, Israel unilaterally withdrew from every inch of Gaza. It dismantled 21 settlements and uprooted over 8,000 Israelis.

We didn't get peace. Instead we got an Iranian backed terror base fifty miles from Tel Aviv. Life in Israeli towns and cities next to Gaza became a nightmare.

You see, the Hamas rocket attacks not only continued, they increased tenfold. Again, the UN was silent.

Finally, after eight years of this unremitting assault, Israel was finally forced to respond. But how should we have responded?

Well, there is only one example in history of thousands of rockets being fired on a country's civilian population. It happened when the Nazis rocketed British cities during World War II.

During that war, the allies leveled German cities, causing hundreds of thousands of casualties. Israel chose to respond differently. Faced with an enemy committing a double war crime of firing on civilians while hiding behind civilians – Israel sought to conduct surgical strikes against the rocket launchers.

That was no easy task because the terrorists were firing missiles from homes and schools, using mosques as weapons depots and ferreting explosives in ambulances.

Israel, by contrast, tried to minimize casualties by urging Palestinian civilians to vacate the targeted areas. We dropped countless flyers over their homes, sent thousands of text messages and called thousands of cell phones asking people to leave.

Never has a country gone to such extraordinary lengths to remove the enemy's civilian population from harm's way. Yet faced with such a clear case of aggressor and victim, who did the UN Human Rights Council decide to condemn? Israel.

A democracy legitimately defending itself against terror is morally hanged, drawn and quartered, and given an unfair trial to boot.

By these twisted standards, the UN Human Rights Council would have dragged Roosevelt and Churchill to the dock as war criminals. What a perversion of truth! What a perversion of justice!

Delegates of the United Nations,
Will you accept this farce? Because if you do, the United Nations would revert to its darkest days, when the worst violators of human rights sat in judgment against the law-abiding democracies, when Zionism was equated with racism and when an automatic majority could declare that the earth is flat.

If this body does not reject this report, it would send a message to terrorists everywhere: Terror pays; if you launch your attacks from densely populated areas, you will win immunity.

And in condemning Israel, this body would also deal a mortal blow to peace. Here's why. When Israel left Gaza, many hoped that the missile attacks would stop. Others believed that at the very least, Israel would have international legitimacy to exercise its right of self-defense.

What legitimacy? What self-defense?

The same UN that cheered Israel as it left Gaza and promised to back our right of self-defense now accuses us –my people, my country - of war crimes? And for what? For acting responsibly in self-defense. What a travesty!

Israel justly defended itself against terror. This biased and unjust report is a clear-cut test for all governments. Will you stand with Israel or will you stand with the terrorists?

We must know the answer to that question now. Now and not later. Because if Israel is again asked to take more risks for peace, we must know today that you will stand with us tomorrow.

Only if we have the confidence that we can defend ourselves can we take further risks for peace.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
All of Israel wants peace. Any time an Arab leader genuinely wanted peace with us, we made peace. We made peace with Egypt led by Anwar Sadat. We made peace with Jordan led by King Hussein.

And if the Palestinians truly want peace, I and my government, and the people of Israel, will make peace. But we want a genuine peace, a defensible peace, a permanent peace.

In 1947, this body voted to establish two states for two peoples – a Jewish state and an Arab state. The Jews accepted that resolution. The Arabs rejected it. We ask the Palestinians to finally do what they have refused to do for 62 years: Say yes to a Jewish state.

Just as we are asked to recognize a nation-state for the Palestinian people, the Palestinians must be asked to recognize the nation state of the Jewish people. The Jewish people are not foreign conquerors in the Land of Israel. This is the land of our forefathers.

Inscribed on the walls outside this building is the great Biblical vision of peace: "Nation shall not lift up sword against nation. They shall learn war no more." These words were spoken by the Jewish prophet Isaiah 2,800 years ago as he walked in my country, in my city - in the hills of Judea and in the streets of Jerusalem. We are not strangers to this land. It is our homeland.

As deeply connected as we are to this land, we recognize that the Palestinians also live there and want a home of their own. We want to live side by side with them, two free peoples living in peace, prosperity and dignity.

But we must have security. The Palestinians should have all the powers to govern themselves except those handful of powers that could endanger Israel.

That is why a Palestinian state must be effectively demilitarized. We don't want another Gaza, another Iranian backed terror base abutting Jerusalem and perched on the hills a few kilometers from Tel Aviv.

We want peace.

I believe such a peace can be achieved. But only if we roll back the forces of terror, led by Iran, that seek to destroy peace, eliminate Israel and overthrow the world order.

The question facing the international community is whether it is prepared to confront those forces or accommodate them.

Over seventy years ago, Winston Churchill lamented what he called the "confirmed unteachability of mankind," the unfortunate habit of civilized societies to sleep until danger nearly overtakes them.

Churchill bemoaned what he called the "want of foresight, the unwillingness to act when action will be simple and effective, the lack of clear thinking, the confusion of counsel until emergency comes, until self-preservation strikes its jarring gong.”

I speak here today in the hope that Churchill's assessment of the "unteachability of mankind" is for once proven wrong.
I speak here today in the hope that we can learn from history -- that we can prevent danger in time.

In the spirit of the timeless words spoken to Joshua over 3,000 years ago, let us be strong and of good courage. Let us confront this peril, secure our future and, God willing, forge an enduring peace for generations to come.

What's the World Coming To?

Found this on a clipart site and decided this really should be something posted every five or ten miles along the road. People have forgotten to Play Nice! I listened to our President and others make speeches at the United Nations GA meeting, and thought, "words are cheap." It's actions that count.

Isn't it time that we all stopped pointing fingers and claiming sides? I thought that went away after grammar school, but it seems to be a favorite pastime in politics. Why do we need two parties? The alliance to one side or another has blinded people about what is right or wrong for the US. The divisive nature of this country is going to be what kills us all. Remember someone once said, United we stand, divided we fall?" Don't you think other nations with a pulsing need for "weapons of mass destruction," see us weakening before their very eyes. Every time our President apologizes for us, we move a notch down the respect chain.

I'm sick of hearing "George Bush made this mess for Obama to inherit." Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn. Mr. Obama walked into this mess with his eyes wide open and an agenda that clearly doesn't serve everyone's needs. I laugh every time I see his health commercial that tells me I can keep my insurance. Oh really...right up until you institute a cheaper policy and my former employer dumps Blue Cross/Blue Shield and puts me in your long lines. I guess what you mean is that I can keep my provider card and hold onto the memories. :) I wouldn't be so negative about your intentions, but before you try to assume my health care needs how about fixing Medicare, Medical and the VA. All institutions run by the government are teetering on failure, so I continue to ask myself why we want to perpetuate the problems.

Isn't it time to ax the Republican/Democrat parties and come together as Americans, united for all? Each side is so busy pointing fingers, they don't have time to read the bills they propose or sign. I've never been anchored to a party for these very reasons. I vote the person, not the party. The democrats have made an ass out of themselves and the Republican elephant has become a load no one can carry. How bout we just all play nice? Yeah, like that's gonna happen.

Coming Soon to a Town Near You

Just when I think the world can't get any more ridiculous, the news proves me wrong. Who in their right mind thought it was a good idea to take "criminally insane" patients on a field trip to a local fair? And one who has escaped before. Don't people who kill, whether crazy or not, give up rights like this? I can see it now...Charles Manson will sue the state because he didn't get to go to Disneyland?

KREM.com

SPOKANE -- A patient from Eastern State Hospital, judged criminally insane, has been missing from Spokane County for a day, and now law enforcement across the U.S. is looking for him.

Spokane Co. Sheriff's Dept.

Friday, the Yakima County Sheriff's Department issued a nationwide felony arrest warrant for Phillip Paul, 47, allowing any jurisdiction to bring him into custody.

Around noon on Thursday, Paul, 47, walked away from Eastern State Hospital attendants while on a day trip to the Spokane County Interstate Fair.

Deputies say Paul is likely headed for his parents' house in Sunnyside, Washington -- the same town where he admitted to killing a woman in 1987 by stabbing and strangling her to death.

Paul was judged criminally insane following the crime and placed in Eastern State Hospital custody. However, during the last 22 years, Paul has been periodically released from Eastern State to live in the community, but ultimately those releases did not work out and Paul returned to the facility.

Spokane County authorities say Paul has been without medication for 30+ hours, but report his medication administered within the past two or three days should keep him stable for up to 14 days.

Still, authorities say Paul should be considered extremely dangerous. Deputies say if he is spotted, the best course of action is not to attempt to contact him, but rather call 911 immediately.

Paul is a white male, 5'8, 220 pounds, with brownish-gray hair, blue eyes, and a goatee. At the time of his escape, Paul was wearing a red windbreaker jacket, with a t-shirt and jeans.

Friday afternoon, Spokane County Sheriff's deputies plan to search for Paul by air, using the department's helicopter.

This is not Paul's first escape attempt. In 1991, Paul escaped Eastern State Hospital and was found near Fishtrap, Washington. During the arrest, Paul injured a deputy.

Since Thursday's escape, a number of groups have decried Eastern State Hospital authorities allowing Paul to visit the fair. Spokane County Commissioners, Washington's Department of Social and Health Services, and Eastern State's own line workers union have all issued statements.

According to a spokesperson for members of Local 782 of the Washington Federation of State Employees, Eastern State attendants at the fair "notified their chain of command within two to three minutes of discovering Paul's escape. [But] it was the administration in Medical Lake that waited some two hours to notify law enforcement authorities."

The Secretary of DSHS, Susan Dreyfus, has ordered an immediate review of the escape incident, as well as the policy allowing patients to take day trips.

There has been only one reliable sighting of Paul. Just after he was reported missing, a business owner on East Sprague reported that Paul walked into the facility, and asked for an employment application.

The Tennessee State Fair is going on now, and I can tell you for sure, I'm not going. If you find yourself on a Ferris Wheel and can't get off, remember, I warned you. :)

Oh Really!

Watching the tea party today made me smile. I'm not the only one who has big questions about government run health care. Why is everything so vague? When I think about Obama's campaign, nothing was ever explained. His platform was "change," and he's certainly lived up to that. But I didn't vote for him because I wanted to know what changes he had in mind. So far, I don't care much for the alternations, and I certainly am not going to throw my support behind government run health care until I know how it will work, where the money is coming from and how it will affect me and my family. How can people blindly follow without those answers. Nothing is free folks...haven't you figured that out?

All I know is I'm not falling for the lie, "If you like your present health care, you can keep it." I retired from the University of California, and we all know the state is in dire straits. How likely is it that UC will continue to dish out $$$ for my health insurance if they can dump me into a "free" government run program. If Obama becomes the Surgeon General, then I'm screwed. I like my health care, but I won't have say in the matter, trust me.

Our President is a smooth talker, but he poses lots of "solutions" without explanation. I'm a big picture person, so I need facts.

Thirty-Two Jobs Obama Created

Well, he did promise to create new jobs, didn't he? The following is an actual list of Czar positions created by Mr. Obama, and I see he's planning to create a few more. Doesn't this seem like a duplication of duties in some instances...Terror Czar/Department of Homeland Security???

I borrowed this from Glenn Beck's Current Event's & Politics Site, and yes people I thank God for men like Glenn Beck who have the courage to question, why???? Despite what others say, I've never found him to lie, and frightfully enough, most of what he predicts, happens. Of course, you've see Van Jones listed, but thankfully that man no longer has the President's ear...at least in an official capacity... on our buck!

As of July 20, 2009:

• The Brainroom counts 32 czars in the Obama administration, based on media reports from reputable sources that have identified the official in question as a czar.
• In addition, President Obama has said that he will create the position of cyber czar, and there have been media reports that there could be a health insurance czar and a copyright czar. When and if those positions are filled, that would bring the total to 35.
• Since czar isn't an official job title, the number is somewhat in the eye of the beholder.

NOTE: positions that also existed under previous administrations are indicated with an *.

When Bersin left the position in 1998, border arrests were on pace for an 18-year low of just more than 200,000. Bravo

I just listened to President Obama address the school children of the nation, and I thought the speech was well prepared and presented.

I'm so glad that most people took the time to read the original "agenda" and saw that the previous plan was geared more for supporting the presidency than oneself. Today's speech was the end result of all those phone calls and emails of complaint. Of course you realize you are now known as a right-winged racist for having spoken up.

I just hope before the Obama supporters point fingers and thump their chests, they realize that the questions previously given to the teachers would not have pertained to the wonderful speech we heard today. This is what it should have been from the beginning, and I don't think anyone would have found fault with his addressing and encouraging our children in the right path.

Kudos to his speech writer for preparing a speech that supports the argument of his followers who didn't take the time to read before they called the rest of us names.

Well, done Mr. President. I thought you were inspirational and encouraging, and I hope the older children take your words to heart. I just wonder what jobs will be available when they graduate. Members of my family can't find any now.

White House: Furor over Speech Is Silly

Really? This headlined on the Internet today, and I'm growing very tired of the Democrats deciding how the rest of us should react to their actions. As I said in an earlier post I have no problem with an elected official urging children to succeed in pursuing educational endeavors. What I do find problemmatic is passing out an agenda that is geared toward garning support for the present administration. If the questions presented no problems for the White House, why then are they being amended? There's a big difference between requesting a child to write a letter to themself answering, "What can I do to help my president?" over the new assignment, "What can I do to help me achieve my educational goals."

Given the number of parents who reacted to this "unannounced" speech to be given to all school aged children, and the number of states who have opted out of participating, I would say a great many people took issue with the presidents political agenda spilling over into the school. What might seem silly to some poses great interest to others. So...Mr. White House Press Secretary...stop judging how we react to the inane decisions our President makes that continue to affect us all. When you point the finger at one person, four point back at you.

By the way, for those concerned with how Gallatin responded. As far as I know, they'll continue with the option to watch or not, but I still dislike the entire idea. Young children will see their classmastes leaving and be puzzled. It's too divisive, but Benny Bills, the Superintendent here, made this decision on his own. He wasn't the most popular man in town, nor with his own school board, before this, and his independent action proves he doesn't value the board members or their opinions. Wrong, Mr. Bills...how dare you speak for me and my family. What our child watches or doesn't watch isn't your decision to make...nor should you have even allowed politics to creep into the classroom.

Two board members responded to my concerns, and I appreciate that they did. Mr. Bills and the rest of the addressees ignored my email. I still can't believe how many people know nothing about the speech. They don't watch Fox and they have no Internet. I guess Mr. Bills assumes everyone does and feels that communicating is unnecessary because he knows best. I don't know the man but had heard rumors from other people in the community. I usually reserve the right to draw my own conclusions, but I think I'll go with the majority on this one.

Hey...it's my blog and my opinion. *lol*

The Government's Track Record

The U.S. Post Service was established in 1775 – the government’s had 234 years to get it right; it is broke, and even though heavily subsidized, it can't compete with private sector FedEx and UPS services.

Social Security was established in 1935 – the government’s had 74 years to get it right; it is broke.

Fannie Mae was established in 1938 – the government’s had 71 years to get it right; it is broke. Freddie Mac was established in 1970 – the government’s had 39 years to get it right; it is broke. Together Fannie and Freddie have now led the entire world into the worst economic collapse in 80 years.

The War on Poverty was started in 1964 – the government’s had 45 years to get it right; $1 trillion of our hard earned money is confiscated each year and transferred to "the poor"; it hasn't worked. Medicare and Medicaid were established in 1965 – the government’s had 44 years to get it right; they are both broke; and now our government dares to mention them as models for all US health care?

AMTRAK was established in 1970 – the government’s had 39 years to get it right; last year they bailed it out as it continues to run at a loss!

There are plenty of other examples, but let’s fast forward. This year, a trillion dollars was committed in the massive political payoff called the Stimulus Bill of 2009; it shows NO sign of working; it's been used to increase the size of governments across America, and raise government salaries while the rest of us suffer from economic hardships. It has yet to create a single new private sector job.

"Cash for Clunkers" was established in 2009 and went broke in days - - after 80% of the cars purchased turned out to be produced by foreign companies, and dealers nationwide are buried under bureaucratic paperwork demanded by a government that is not yet paying them what was promised.

So our government, with a 100% failure rate and a record of turning every "service" into disaster, is asking to run or even set policies for America's health care system - - 17% of our economy?

Maybe each of us has a personal responsibility to let others in on this brilliant record before 2010, and then help remove from office those who are voting to destroy our much more successful free market system. It’s not perfect, but consistently better than the government option.

AUTHOR UNKNOWN of the above, but it sort of says it all, doesn't it?

“If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.” - WINSTON CHURCHILL

The New Pledge

I'm sure the President would say this video has been "altered" and "manipulated" in ways to stress lies about our current situation, but try as I might, I couldn't find anything about it that seemed untrue.

Sad, don't you think. And if I were to compare Obama's short presidential journey to book genres, I would have to say he started out as a "Mystery" and has quickly become a "Horror Story." Maybe, a non-fiction along the lines of "Ripley's Believe it or Not," would be more suitable.

The School District Responds

But not to me! This morning I emailed the principal of my grandson's school and all the members of the Sumner County School Board. Only one member was kind enough to reply, supported my stand and suggested I email the Superintendent. I would have, but I couldn't locate an email address for him. The principal of the school didn't respond either and now I know why. The staff was probably too busy cranking out flyers to send home, in response to people like me who expressed their disdain at not having a say in whether or not their child participated in President Obama's scheduled and secretive indoctrination. Why weren't the parents made aware of this well before hand?

Now...NOT earlier today when I searched for addresses and sent my letter of concern, you'll find this statement issued about September 8th. Parents are now offered the choice of allowing their children to participate with the "speech group" or permit them to remain with their regular curriculum.

As many of you may be aware, President Barack Obama has announced that he

will be giving an address for our nation’s school children on Tuesday, September
8th at 11:00 a.m.

Students in Sumner County Schools will be given the opportunity to listen to the speech in their schools, provided their parent or guardian gives permission in writing for their student to do so. Conversely, parents or guardians will be given the opportunity to notify their school in writing they do not wish for their student to
listen to the President’s address. We will be sending correspondence home with students asking parents to notify their school of their preference regarding thePresident’s address.

Students who do not listen to the speech will remain in their classes where they will be engaged in an age-appropriate, grade- or course-appropriate activity. They will not be penalized in any way for missing the speech nor will the students wholisten to the speech to be penalized for not being in class

I suppose I should be happy that now my son and his wife, who are NOT Obama supporters can decide on the issue, but I still want an answer to my question. WHY IS IT OKAY TO SEGREGATE OUR CHILDREN INTO SEPARATE GROUPS BY ALLOWING POLITICS TO INVADE THE SCHOOL SETTING WHERE IT HAS NO PLACE?

Since we are already expected to supply paper, crayons, kleenex, paper towel, hand sanitizer, snacks, and any other necessities needed to teach our children, I wonder who's paying for the paper on which the informative flyers will be printed and NOW sent home. Our tax dollars at work? Again, I reiterate...if God can't be in the pledge, Obama should stay out of the schools. Whether you are Democrat, Republican or Independent--whatever you affiliation, you should be offended by this waste of time when the President has so many other things he should worry about. Creating a divisive atmosphere in our grammar schools is not going to win him any points in the polls.

Be very afraid:

Did Anyone Ask Your Permission?

President Obama’s Address to Students Across America September 8, 2009!

Is it not enough that he's on television every week or conducting a town hall meeting in the US... or making an appearance on foreign networks while he apologizes to other countries on our behalf? Now he wants to brainwash our children. This smacks of the gestapo. I've never witnessed a more narcissistic personality in my life.

I cannot tell you how opposed I am to this plan. Religion is not allowed in the schools... we've removed God from the Pledge, so why is it okay to discuss politics? Should we be exposing our children to the viewpoints of a president who has fallen from the favor of the voting public?

A great many youngsters have witnessed their parents painting signs for tea parties and town hall meetings--signs that protest the very things that are happening under this president's leadership. What gives him the right to pump their heads with his propaganda without the permission of the parents? I'm sure most kids have overheard disgruntled people speaking about the outright atrocities being planned and instrumented by the current administration. I say, politics have no place in the classroom. If you agree, speak up! Here is the suggested "itinerary" for this grand appearance by the Head Czar!

PreK-6 Menu of Classroom Activities:
President Obama’s Address to Students Across America
Produced by Teaching Ambassador Fellows, U.S. Department of Education September 8, 2009

Before the Speech:

Teachers can build background knowledge about the President of the United States and his speech by reading books about presidents and Barack Obama and motivate students by asking the following questions: Who is the President of the United States? What do you think it takes to be President? To whom do you think the President is going to be speaking? Why do you think he wants to speak to you? What do you think he will say to you?

Teachers can ask students to imagine being the President delivering a speech to all of the students in the United States. What would you tell students? What can students do to help in our schools? Teachers can chart ideas about what they would say.

Why is it important that we listen to the President and other elected officials, like the mayor, senators, members of congress, or the governor? Why is what they say important?

During the Speech:

As the President speaks, teachers can ask students to write down key ideas or phrases that are important or personally meaningful. Students could use a note-taking graphic organizer such as a Cluster Web, or students could record their thoughts on sticky notes. Younger children can draw pictures and write as appropriate. As students listen to the speech, they could think about the following: What is the President trying to tell me? What is the President asking me to do? What new ideas and actions is the President challenging me to think about?

Students can record important parts of the speech where the President is asking them to do something. Students might think about: What specific job is he asking me to do? Is he asking anything of anyone else? Teachers? Principals? Parents? The American people?

Students can record any questions they have while he is speaking and then discuss them after the speech. Younger children may need to dictate their questions.

After the Speech:

Teachers could ask students to share the ideas they recorded, exchange sticky notes or stick notes on a butcher paper poster in the classroom to discuss main ideas from the speech, i.e. citizenship, personal responsibility, civic duty.

Students could discuss their responses to the following questions: What do you think the President wants us to do? Does the speech make you want to do anything? Are we able to do what President Obama is asking of us? What would you like to tell the President?

Teachers could encourage students to participate in the Department of Education’s “I Am What I Learn” video contest.

On September 8 the Department will invite K-12 students to submit
video no longer than 2 min, explaining why education is important and how their education will help them achieve their dreams. Teachers are welcome to incorporate the same or a similar video project into an assignment. More details will be released via www.ed.gov.

Extension of the Speech: Teachers can extend learning by having students:

Create posters of their goals. Posters could be formatted in quadrants or puzzle pieces or trails marked with the labels: personal, academic, community, country. Each area could be labeled with three steps for achieving goals in those areas. It might make sense to focus on personal and academic so community and country goals come more readily.

Write letters to themselves about what they can do to help the president. These would be collected and redistributed at an appropriate later date by the teacher to make students accountable to their goals.

Write goals on colored index cards or precut designs to post around the classroom.

Interview and share about their goals with one another to create a supportive community.

Participate in School wide incentive programs or contests for students who achieve their goals.

Write about their goals in a variety of genres, i.e. poems, songs, personal essays.

Create artistic projects based on the themes of their goals.

Graph student progress toward goals.

My final comment: With regard to this question: Why is it important that we listen to the President and other elected officials, like the mayor, senators, members of congress, or the governor? Why is what they say important?

I wonder if it shouldn't be altered to say, Why is it important for the president and congress to listen to the people who elected them--solicit their opinions before acting in haste. Shouldn't those who take an oath to act in the best interest of their constituents honor it?

Just because someone becomes an elected official, that doesn't mean they are above reproach. Count the number of tax cheats in Washington, and ask what happened as a consequence of their bad behavior. I don't think I want my grandchildren learning from politicians who have assumed careers rather than "serving a term,"...people who pad their pockets with special interest money that influences their votes. I'm one of those people that believe our only salvation lies in cleaning out the dead wood and starting over fresh. Since Obama is losing ground in the popularity polls, he's turning to our children. Is there nothing he won't do?

Five Years Ago

Does this image disturb you? It should. Today marks an anniversary, but not one anyone would want to celebrate:
5-YEAR ANNIVERSARY of BESLAN, RUSSIA SCHOOL MASSACRE by Muslim terrorists

Taken from Bare Naked Islam's Blog: For three days, more than 1200 children and adults were held hostage in a sweltering gymnasium, denied food and water, and forced to keep their hands over their heads. The harrowing siege ended on September 3 with a series of explosions and a hail of gunfire that killed some 350 people – half of them children.

The grim details are rarely exposed but the fact I want to make is this was orchestrated by MUSLIM TERRORISTS. While not all Muslims are terrorist, why does it seem that this religion is filled with them? They have no regard for human life, even their own, and spare no one, not even innocent children. In this instance, the children were raped, mutilated and tortured before dying. Death was probably an intended blessing by their captors.

THESE are the very people that our president holds his hand out to in friendship and apologizes for OUR misdeeds. Terror camps exist in our own country, and I've blogged about their locations and the rapid growth. Nothing is being done, and according to our new leader, we should all reach out and atone to the Muslim sector for our belief that they pose a threat. I can't find it in me to do it? Can you?

If you're proud to be a Muslim, then good for you, but how can you possibly feel any sense of pride in all the horrible things that have been done in the name of you religion?

Watch and wonder with me.

WARNING: I support the office of the President, not the person currently holding it!
